Lieber im Original auf englisch Die deutsche Buchbeschreibung finde ich ein wenig irreführend, daher ist hier die englische Beschreibung: "Jarra is stuck on Earth while the rest of humanity portals around the universe. (goodreads.com) Zuerst einmal eine Warnung: Dies ist der erste Band einer Reihe mit bisher drei auf Englisch erschienenen Romanen, von denen jedoch nur zwei auf deutsch übersetzt wurden und soweit mir bekannt, ist eine Übersetzung des dritten und bisher letzten Bands nicht geplant. Auch wenn man diesen 1. Band einzeln lesen kann, da kein großer Cliffhanger am Ende steht, sollte man sich gut überlegen, ob man eine Reihe anfängt, die nicht vollständig übersetzt ist. Dazu kommt, dass die Autorin auf Englisch bereits einige Short Stories und Novellen zu dieser Reihe veröffentlicht hat. Ich habe, nachdem ich diesen ersten Band auf deutsch gelesen hatte, die ganze Reihe auf Englisch gelesen (+ Short Stories & Novellen) und finde, man kann die Werke der Autorin sehr leicht im Original lesen. Die Inhaltsangabe bzw. den Klappentext finde ich ein wenig irreführend, da vieles ausgelassen oder falsch dargestellt wurde, so könnte man beispielsweise annehmen, dass die Menschen der Zukunft ohne Hilfsmittel “teleportieren“ können, was nicht der Fall ist. Ich finde Janet Edwards hat eine ganz außergewöhnliche Welt erschaffen und das mit einfachsten Mitteln; man lernt die Zukunft, in die Jarra mit einem “Handicap“ hinein geboren wurde, beiläufig und unaufgeregt, kennen. So großartig wie das “Worlbuilding“ bzw. Setting der Autorin sind auch ihre unglaublich sympathischen und authentischen Charaktere, allen voran die Protagonistin Jarra.
