3.5 Stars Alright, so: I complained a lot about this book while reading it under the assumption that the love triangle would fall into the same clichés as all the others do. I was wrong and ended up really enjoying this book for the most part. The biggest problems I had with this was Alina herself. She was just so dull and passive all the time and it just didn't sit right with me. That being said, I absolutely loved the story, Mal, the Darkling (and Baghra as well). They were really great characters and the Darkling was especially great. Mal is my fave but I still have to say that I loved how the motives of the Darkling just shone through more and more until his real plans were revealed in the end. If I'm honest I think the entire story would have been much more interesting from Mal's point of view or with a better lead than the Alina in this story. I mean Alina isn't the worst main character I ever had to encounter. I can stand her and she didn't ruin everything completely, she was just not great enough to complement the amazing story around her.
