Exquisite humor and a sweet romance While this historical romance is not that historical whatsoever and the cover screams „cheesy“ it has other qualities to offer, that convinced me to love this book and continue this series. Tessa Dares writing is impeccable. The story is well-paced, lovely and witty. While her dialogues and character ideas are a bit to modern to really be Regency, I just enjoyed the mix of historical setting and modern thinking. She also managed to focus on a great relationship with the staff, as well as other women who might have the chance for her own stories. As far as the characters, we have that grumpy tortured hero, that maybe goes a bit to far with his constant „nobody can ever love me“-attitude, but nevertheless delivers what it needs. I really rooted for the couple and loved Emma’s teasing of her husband. This story has so many small details that uplift your mood and give this book so much depth. The story is really about their marriage of convenience, but has a lot more strings attached to this. Coping with scars and wounds, feeling insecure in your own skin, bad relationships with parents, delivering a baby on your own, getting left by someone you thought you loved, and so forth. I can not wait to continue this series! 4,5 ⭐️
