This book was such a fun and light read. I‘m glad I stumbled upon Tessa Dare and will probably read more from her! While I really don’t like the cover of the book, I enjoyed the story as much more. Izzy is such an unconventional character of her time and sometimes I have to admit I didn’t really believe the time period this played in. But nonetheless I loved her character! She tries to survive and never gives up. Every challenge she meets is just another thing she is going to conquer and even if she thinks she doesn’t need romance and love this story proofs otherwise. Ransom is the perfect tortured hero, rough around the edges but he deep down cares a lot. With his struggling past and upbringing it’s understandable he seems cold and grumpy, but all that melts slowly down meeting Izzy. Their chemistry was incredible! While he tries almost everything to run her off, she is determined to stay. Her background with the fairytales that made her a popular figure is a lovely and funny detail that gives this story so much depth. With the two of them stuck together in that big but rundown castle it’s no surprise sparks begin to fly, but danger looms over them. Finally I really enjoyed this book! It’s not that historical so I think a great deal of people will enjoy it even if they don’t really read historical romances. The chemistry between the characters is lovely, the setting quite unique and the backstory well considered. 4 ⭐️
