I put off writing this review for a LONG time… maybe because I’m a little scared, because frankly saying with all the hype surrounding this book, I’m scared people will start hating on me.😂😂 Because, well… in my opinion Crescent City is overhyped… Don’t get me wrong. I love SJM and I really enjoyed reading it for the most part, but there were things in this book that made me lower my rating from 5 stars to only 3 stars and the more I think about it, the more I believe 3 is a realistic rating. I will try to keep this review precise, because it is not my intention to hate on this series and even though I had issues with it, I still loved huge parts of it and I definitely want to read book 2! ALSO, BEWARE OF SPOILERS AND HEAVY LANGUAGE PLEASE So, first of all, it took me almost 200 pages to get into it. It was a really slow start, but I don’t necessarily see this as something negative. I got really emotional even in the beginning. I cried so so hard about Danika and co, so the book definitely caught me and had me in it’s grip! My favourite character is probably Ruhn, because he is just a sweetheart! <333 Bryce was… honestly my least favourite SJM lead character. I get that she has to deal with emotional trauma and never worked through all the sh** she went through. I really hope that there will be character development in book 2 and that she starts being more considerate towards herself and others… because the way she behaved… simply put she was just acting like a total b**ch throughout the entire book. And I don’t mind sassy and badass characters, but Bryce most of the time was just offensive and gave other people the feeling they don’t matter. The worst point for me was towards the end when she was on the phone with her mum. She didn’t have an ounce of respect towards her mother, couldn’t even take 5 minutes to talk to her and made her feel like she doesn’t matter by taking a shower at the same time. Like, girl, just sit down on your a** for 5 f****** min to talk to your mum. Then Lehabah… I loved that little creature so much, but in the end I felt like what happened to her was so unnecessary… it was just to trigger emotions, but it didn’t really do anything. 2 seconds? I’m sure it would’ve worked without… THAT. The action scenes towards the end were AMAZING. As was everything that was revealed and these mind-blowing parts, where you’re just too shocked at all the developments to function properly. SJM does this REALLY WELL!!!! But then… literally right after the city was saved Hunt and Bryce are like; “Okay, let’s f*** now.” Like… don’t you have anything better to do?? You were SO close to death and that’s all you can think about?? There was no spark. Not. At. All. Where was the feeling and the sparks and the crackle like in Acotar and ToG? Why was it just this plain “let’s f***” between Hunt and Bryce? I didn’t understand it… So, basically these two things in the end; the phone call and the let’s f**** destroyed the entire book for me. Up until that point I was at 4 to 4.5 stars and then BOOM. Destruction. The ending also felt really rushed and I am just so so sad about this… because I really wanted to love it… I hope book 2 will get better! Especially when it comes to Bryce…
