I started #Acowar back in August, read about 160 pages of it and then paused it before I picked it back up about a week ago and finally finished it. The reasons for pausing this one are not entirely clear even to myself, but I think it is a mix of knowing too many spoilers and fearing that this final installment couldn’t possibly live up to the second installment in the series - #Acomaf … Before even starting the first book #ACourtOfThornsAndRoses I knew most of the things that would happen in the entire trilogy. I think if it weren’t for these spoilers I would’ve enjoyed the series more. I still loved this series, but a lot of wow moments were gone for me unfortunately. Thank God I am now *almost* up to date (I still have to read #Acofas ) and I will try not to fall behind on Sarah’s books anymore, so as to not be spoiled again for her books. **MIGHT HAVE SPOILERS DOWN BELOW** Anyway, about Acowar: I was actually pleasantly surprised by most of the characters. It did take a while for the pacing to pick up in the beginning, but #SarahJMaas has a wonderful writing style that makes up for a lot. Many of you also know that I am not the biggest fan of Feyre… She did surprise me in the end with something I found pretty cool, but overall I expected more from her as the main character. In fact, I enjoyed the side characters much more though - over the course of the entire series. My favourites are Mor and Azriel, but I feel like every single one of the side characters positively surprised me in this one. From other people I heard that Elain was supposed to be dull and boring and without personality whatsoever, but I must say I disagree! Sure, she’s not the most lively and doesn’t have the strongest personally, but I really liked her cautious behaviour. She is so different from her sisters, but it kind of makes her special. As for Nesta… well, I hated her in the past two books. And I hated her in most of Acowar, but there WAS character development. She actually changed for the better throughout Acowar and I very much appreciate this. There were scenes with her that I loved and I can sort of understand her as well. Sure she is still a b**ch for the most part, but she comes out of her shell here and there and actually gives some explanation for her behaviour. I still don’t love her, but if #Acosf gives us more of this character development I think that it could actually be a good book! And even Tamlin surprised me in a positive way! Him saying “Be happy, Feyre” actually broke my heart and I am thinking there might still be hope for him! I am also very curious about Lucien and Jurian. These are again two characters that have a lot of potential in my eyes and I wouldn’t mind more stories about the characters of the #Acotar universe. This includes Amren and Varian as well! <3 I could probably write thrice as much about the overall series, the characters and the plot, but I will leave it at that. Overall I just want to say that this was actually a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy!!
