— 🗝 after i finished ‚if we were villains‘ a few weeks ago, i immediately checked goodreads and amzon for reviews that loved the book as much as i did. instead, i found many german reviews that hated the book for being too similar to ‚the secret history‘ by donna tartt. being curious af, i read this book, too (in a very nice but chaotic buddy read with @michelle.eluise ). here is what i loathed & loved about these two five-star-reads: • — 🗞 DONNA TARTT - THE SECRET HISTORY i went into ‚the secret history‘ with the expectation to hate it. my mother liked it but criticized the many drug scenes which became boring & repetitive. according to her, there didn‘t happen much in the book. she was right! the plot was so thin that me and my buddy read partner didn‘t realize that we were 200 pages apart for two whole days. i have to admit that tartt impressed me a lot: i wasn‘t bored once & every descision seemed truly logical and completely reasonable. stepping 0.2 meters away, i questioned myself how i could ever think that. i liked and disliked every single person. also, there was a lot to interprete which i always adore.
