— 🗝 after i finished ‚if we were villains‘ a few weeks ago, i immediately checked goodreads and amzon for reviews that loved the book as much as i did. instead, i found many german reviews that hated the book for being too similar to ‚the secret history‘ by donna tartt. being curious af, i read this book, too (in a very nice but chaotic buddy read with @michelle.eluise ). here is what i loathed & loved about these two five-star-reads: — 🎭 M L RIO - IF WE WERE VILLAINS i honestly understand every criticism. there wasn‘t a single plot point i didn‘t expect to happen & of course, the characters were stereotypes. but: i liked that the plot was that way, very theatrical & like a classic drama. it fits the book very well. same goes for the character archetypes & the way they develop. i fell in love with this book because it all felt incredibly real. i was so emerged in the story that even my whole life felt like a part of it. it reminded me why i love reading. oh, and also i cried so much. in conclusion, you should read it for the drama, the characters, all the feelings and the vibes.
