Before going into this book I already knew that there wouldn’t be as many action scenes as you would expect considering this is a story about Vikings. Therefore, I wasn’t really disappointed or let down by the slower pace of this book. The pacing was slow and calm and even though I enjoyed the action scenes that were included, I really liked the slow moments as well. The change that took place within the main character was fascinating to witness. The blood feud between the two clans was a nice aspect that showed change is possible and that great change can happen if simply one little piece - in this case our main character - starts to look behind all the hate and looks at things in a more neutral way. This book taught that it is not necessary to fight each other when together you can achieve so many great/ greater things. I really really liked this aspect of the story and the unlikely friendships and romances that formed throughout. However (and this is probably be biggest complaint about this book), this could have happened in any other kind of story as well. It didn’t need to be a Vikings setup. It could have taken place in really any time. It could have occurred with any kind of people. This is what really disappointed me. Generally speaking, this book was really good - despite the lack of action. But I was promised Vikings and I didn’t really feel Vikings all the time.
