The Raven Boys was published in 2012 and I’ve only just read it for the first time… oh well, it took me a while! It was rather on a whim that I picked it up this month. I didn’t plan on reading it, but then I discovered a group read for this series on instagram and was like; okay why not. And I must admit, for only having it on my radar partially all those years, I did quite enjoy it! The writing style took some getting used to and the generally slower pace of this book, made it take a while to get though it. But I wouldn’t say this is a negative point. Unfortunately, some people in this group read couldn’t get warm with the story, DNFed it or decided to not pick up the second book. I on the other hand, really really liked it! The slow pace enabled me to get to know the characters slowly, learn their quirks and get to know all the mysteries they are so fond of. The characters really are a bunch of extraordinary people and it seems there is no-one, either in Blue’s family or among the raven boys, that is normal. And… I love this. This book is really unlike anything I’ve read so far and witnessing how they all become friends, become closer until it feels like they’ve known each other all along is really nice! Seeing them trying to solve these mysteries (and there is not only one mystery but a bunch of them) is super entertaining and I am intrigued by Blue’s mystery probably the most!
