Ahh the Wicked King. I devoured this book! Needless to say; I loved this book!! It was great from beginning to end with lots of awesome quotes and those characters!! A character driven story, in my opinion, is the best kind of story there is. And this is such. I wouldn’t mind reading an inner monologue of Jude for 10 chapters straight. Her thoughts are so fascinating. Jude Duarte is one the most relatable, twisted and badass female characters there are. She is strong-willed to no end and she has those dark thoughts and those twisted plans and schemes in her head and she is definitely a morally grey character, but I don’t care. I love her, BECAUSE she is not the pure lovely innocent female that is stuck in fairy land and doesn’t know what to do and needs a prince in shining armor to save her. She needs no one. And she doesn’t want to need anyone either. She’d rather die trying to save herself instead of waiting for someone else to save her. And I’m rambling. But she’s great! I promise! And then there’s Cardan. The cruel prince. The wicked king. The one that gives Jude lots of headaches and is seemingly just enjoying his time as king without any responsibility whatsoever. Enjoying the feasts, the attention of fairy ladies, the wine. But… is he really? Then there was also another side to Cardan that we got to know in this book. A vulnerable and quite lovely side, if one can even call it that in Cardan’s case. We get to know more about his past, his childhood, his mother and of course we can read a lot between the lines through what Balekin says and how he behaves when it comes to Cardan. And then there is also the twisted relationship between Jude and Cardan. The balance between like and hate and the very thin line they’re balancing on when it comes to each other. It is not easy between those two, or generally with all the relationships throughout this book. But when is it ever easy in real life? Right - never. And this is also a reason for why I like these books so much. Because they’re so realistic and relatable. I can feel what the characters feel through Holly’s writing. And I can understand the inner turmoils they have. After reading this book I can also now relate more to all the hate comments about Taryn and I haven’t read the Short story „The lost sisters“ yet, but I certainly still want to do that and I am most certain that my dislike for her will only grow after that. 😂 And this relationship is also a difficult one. Jude wants to hate Taryn, but then again she’s also her sister and sisters and family should stick together, right? I am SOOO excited to see which direction the finale will take and I am a bit terrified as well, especially after this ending!! I hope that all my dreams come true and I hope that some characters will die and I hope that I won’t be completely devastated after Queen of Nothing… though I probably will. 😭💔
