I heard so many good things about the Illuminae Files, and because I am a sucker for sci-fi, I decided to give it a try. Style-wise, I have never ever read a book like this. The story is told through interviews, video transcriptions, chats, articles, pictures... so many different types of media! So pretty to look at. And very refreshing, but also a bit challenging to read like this. But let's talk about the story. Was I really invested? Not during the first half of the book. Did I like the characters? Not that much. I really wish I would have liked this book more. But as I said, I have read many different sci-fi books and this story didn't catch me. The part that captivated me were the last couple of pages, the last chapter. I feel like the following books are going to offer so much more story-wise. I was also surprised by the decisions around the "love story". For me, the plot twist in the end ruined it. Honestly, I am probably in a minority here, but why does there always have to be a love interest?? Finishing this review, I want to say that I don't regret reading this book, because the style is so unique. But I feel like it's due to the style it was so hard for me to connect to the characters.
