Puh. Was soll ich sagen. Dry ist in einigem ein klassisches Shusterman-Buch: Es gibt eine Was-wäre-wenn-Frage und die Erkundung der darausfolgenden Situation. In Dry bleibt diese aber weit hinter Vollendet oder Scythe zurück - viel zu unausgearbeitet & undetailliert für meinen Geschmack. Dry liest sich genau wie ein mittelmäßiger Hollywood-Endzeit-Blockbuster. Die übliche Schreibregel Show-Don‘t-Tell wird gekonnt ignoriert, sodass es eher einem Script ähnelt als einem Roman. Die Charaktere sind überspitzt, wahnsinnig klischeehaft & die Romanze nur schwer nachvollziehbar. Dry ist fesselnd, es braucht nur wenige Seiten, bis man voll im Geschehen drin ist, dafür ist das Tempo seltsam und das Ende zu Friede-Freude-Eierkuchen, nachdem von Anfang an schief lief, was schief laufen konnte. Die Auswirkungen des Tap-Outs werden nur scheinwerferhaft gezeigt. Was Dry allerdings doch geschafft hat: Meine Einstellung zum Wasserkonsum völlig zu ändern. Ich weiß nicht, ob andere Berliner das auch bestätigen können, aber mir kommt es oft so vor, als würden Berliner ENORM stolz auf die Qualität des Leitungswassers sein. Ich engagiere mich oft umweltpolitisch & achte auf das, was ich selbst im Alltag besser machen kann. Mein Wasserkonsum gehörte bisher nicht dazu. Jetzt schon und dafür bin ich dankbar. Letztendlich freue ich mich, das Buch gelesen zu haben - gut war es deshalb aber noch lange nicht. - i‘m very torn between two and three stars and also i‘m aching for water right now. there are things i really loved about ‚dry‘: the dedication, the realism, that i couldn’t put it down and how i reflected on it all day long. i will never think about water the same as i did. i come from a city where people are very proud of the quality of their tap water. i usually don‘t think a lot about my water consume even though i care a lot about activism. i‘m sure that ‚dry‘ changed my mindset completely. on the other hands, i also hated a lot of things. neal shustermans characters are never THAT good but they are also not as bad as they were in dry. i loathed nearly everyone of them and not even because they were definitively controverse personas but also because of the cliches. so. many. cliches. i‘m tired. i only understood their development sometimes. this was also a lot of tell rather than show and the end was too fast-paced, unrealistic and ... happy for my taste. a lot of scenes were also trashy in my opinion. i‘m glad i read this but this was definitively my least favourite shusterman and pretty underwhelming.
