Cindy
This is maybe the most important novel of 2017. Angie Thomas debut novel draws a portray of our society without romantisizing anything. Main-character Starr represents Black people living in America. She witnesses the murder of her best friend. He was shot by a police officer despite he was unarmed and did nothing wrong. The story follows her and what happens because of the murder. This book opens your eyes regarding unarmed shooting in America as well as Black history and life-style. It is beautifully written using slang. One does really get a feeling for the situation. The characters are unique and relatable, even though one clearly notices that one is white and nit black. Sometimes the novel makes you feel guilty but it offers perspectives and raises hope to change something. Family plays an important role and adds character to the story. Starr's family is so sweet and cute and adorable. You have to fall in love with them. Despite the sad topic the book offers some laughter and finds a goob balanca between seriousness and fun. You get an inside in a Black neighbourhood and how it is to live there, what the differnces between black and white people are and how Black people handle specific situuations. It's stunning! A must-read for everybody to raise awareness!!!
